For his part, the office of the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, said that the decision paved the way for the implementation of the project, adding that the pilot project officially began in one of the wings of the Katziot prison, after the minister signed and officially classified the Nile crocodile, allowing the establishment of what he described as a “crocodile prison.”
The Ministry confirmed the allocation of 21 million shekels to establish the channels, noting that the project will reduce the burden on members of the Prison Service charged with guarding members of the elite force of the Hamas movement involved in the October 7 attack.
According to the ministry, the Israeli Prison Service has prepared a detailed plan that includes maintaining, supervising and housing the crocodiles, and its personnel have also received training on guarding the site and dealing with the animals.
